  • The trip to El Paso went well.  Work continues to build.

The house work should begin within by next week.  The kids enjoy the freedom to run and play.  The mornings are much easier as we are closer to the school.

Hard to believe September is almost over...odd because we moved here on July 1 and time has gone by very quickly.

Kids are happy to see Papa and enjoyed sitting next to him on the couch while they played on the computer.

Another trip on the horizon, this time back to LA.

Switched from tuba to trombone in the corps band and am stumbling through the different sound and style.  It is great fun but I need lots of practice.

49ers are 2-1...Favre pulled one out for Minnesota.  The niners gave him a chance and he took it.

  • Wow...didn't realize the delay since the last post.

Much busier as my responsibilities have increased exponentially.  Lots to learn and lots to do at the same time.

We temporarily settled into the quarters while we await the bids/work to begin to see how the kids like the house and the morning schedule.  The love the space to run and play.  Their school is only 5 minutes away.

Kids are doing well and continue to enjoy their school.  Nathan continues to make progress and we are excited to see how he continues throughout this school year.

Football season has begun.  I was fortunate to be able to see the Cardinals/49ers game on Sunday.  49ers won!

Off to El Paso tomorrow for a short trip.

  • Happy Birthday to my brother!

Not much this weekend as the kids have coughs and colds.  I stayed home to watch them on Sunday and caught what they had.  Nothing much today as I was not feeling well.

    Football season begins on Thursday!

  • Happy Birthday to my niece Meghan!!!

Day two of Officers' Councils went well.  The hotel is nice and we spent the day focusing on discipleship training.  Good time of fellowship as the retired officers joined us for dinner and tomorrow's events.

Kids are doing well with Nana Tina.  Nathan has the sniffles and a slight cough but he is well enough to go to school.

Looking forward to the holiday weekend.

  • Settled into the DHQ apartment.  A couple of weeks left as the bids on the quarters work start coming in next week.

The kids continue to enjoy school.  Nathan is slowly settling into his routine at school which is making the evenings much easier at home.  He is really tired after school (no naps) so he has fallen asleep in the van on the way home or shortly after coming home as he sits down to relax.  Serena is woken from her nap each day after Nathan finishes school but hers seems to be just the right time as she is good for the rest of the evening.

Enjoyed the divisional men's camp last weekend.  Good turnout and great fellowship, food, worship, and fun.  Short trip to So Cal this week to THQ.  Officers' Councils next week.

Still warm in Phoenix...113 yesterday, same today, and maybe the same all weekend.  Cooler weather is just around the corner (October).

For the first time in a long time...I actually read two sci-fi novels.  Read lots of other stuff but no novels in over five years.

  • The kids started school this week and seem to enjoy it.  They have adapted to the schedule quickly both at home and at school.

We'll visit another local corps tomorrow.  We begin moving our stuff into a DHQ apartment on Monday where we will stay until the other quarters is ready.  It is much closer to their school.

  • Another week quickly went by.

Finished packing the pod for storage while we await our final quarters.  Thankfully we did not unpack.  We are looking forward to mid-September as we can begin to settle.  The distance at the other quarters to the house is much closer when we unload the pod and the house is on the same level.

Kids are doing okay but Serena's cough is worse.  Ang did an early morning trip to the ER for her cough.  Doctors think it could be allergies or asthma.

Ang is out enjoying a movie and much needed break.

    A cool weekend ahead...only up to 106.

Monday, 03 August 2009

  • Weekend plans changed.  Both kids have come down with some sort of cold.  Serena with a sore throat and Nathan with a cough.  Hopefully it will clear up quickly (just in time for school next week).

Friday, 31 July 2009

  • Finally got my computer this week...after a very long delay.

Full day for us (out of the office) as we registered both kids for school.  While they will be at the same school, they needed to be registered in two different locations.  Now we wait for the school to review Nathan's IEP.

Doctor's appointment this afternoon for both kids.  Good news that they are both healthy and we have several references to other doctors for follow-up, especially for Nathan's care.  Serena did get two shots so both she and mommy were not too happy which is why daddy gets to hold Serena while the nurse does her thing.

Hard to believe July is almost over.  We are really looking forward to mid-September when we can finally settle in our house.

All the while, Angela's workload is already large and increasing mine is slowly but surely gaining momentum...kind of like watching a tidal wave slowly build up strength.

  • Lots of travel this week.  250 miles on Monday, 370 miles on Thursday, and 370 miles today (Saturday), which makes for more travel in one week than an average month in So Cal.

Up to camp today for the Music Camp final concert and farewell to cadets.  All the campers sound great and a big thank you to the leaders who give so much to influence those lives.  Somewhat reminiscent as we farewelled from this division eleven years ago...weird because it does not seem that long.

It was a beautiful drive home with the cloudy weather and torrential rainfall in places.

Nathan's (and his cousin Nathan's) birthday party will be tomorrow after church.  Something simple with water involved, the kids will have a blast.  Nathan is beginning to understand more as he knows he gets to open birthday presents tomorrow.

  • Another quick week.  Went to my high school JROTC reunion on Saturday.  Hard to believe it has been 20 years.  Good to catch up and share stories.  Missed a couple folks but thanks to the Internet it is easier to get back in touch.

The warm summer continues.  Three days in a row of 114 degrees.  Of course Phoenix is hot in July.  The kids want to go in Nana's swimming pool everyday.  Mommy joined them yesterday.

Hopefully my computer and cell phone will arrive this week.  Will be on the road visiting corps this week to do budgets.

  • This week went by quickly.  For various reasons, I am without a computer until next week so lots of reading and note taking.  Due to the move, my cell phone is off as of tonight and I should have the new phone by this time next week.

Funny thing about technology...when it is missing you have to think about how to do what you do.  One of the nice things is that without email, you need to meet face to face.

Very warm forecast in store for Phoenix...110+ all weekend and into next week.  Lots of time indoors to avoid the heat.

Wednesday, 08 July 2009

  • Settling in quickly.  Enjoyed a nice BBQ with Ang's family on 4th of July and melted while we watched fireworks.  The heat is not too bad as we adjust to it.  The kids are enjoying the small inflatable "swimming cool" at Nana's house.

We will be staying with Ang's family for awhile due to work in/switch with the quarters.

  • An emotional day.  Our last Sunday at our soldiering corps (Torrance) and then straight to our sessionmate's memorial service.  I choked back tears many times from carrying in the flag to sharing on behalf of the session.

Just cleaning and packing what goes in the van tomorrow.

Don't know when we'll have Internet access so check back soon...

Sunday, 28 June 2009

  • The truck arrived and was loaded this afternoon.  One of the guys was the same from last year and mentioned that it did not look like we bought/added anything.  Is that good or bad?

Not much left in the house except the stuff we will take with us in the van.  Cleaning should not take us too long as it is a condo.

Long day tomorrow with our last Sunday and our sessionmate's memorial service.

Friday, 26 June 2009

  • Got a bunch of boxes packed today.  Not excited about walking them down the stairs and up the second set of stairs into the garage.  Glad to be moving into a house with an attached garage on the same level of the house.

Nathan recognizes his name on the boxes and keeps reminding us that it is his box!

Not surprised at people's reactions to Michael Jackson's passing.  It is a little odd seeing people rushing to the hospital causing traffic and commotion.

Thursday, 25 June 2009

  • A mixed day.  Nice farewell chapel at DHQ and we were able to take the time to say our farewells to the officers/employees as it will be our last day in the office.  Sad as our sessionmate was promoted to glory.  His service will be sometime this weekend.

We have two full days to finish packing.  We have made enough progress that it will not be a rush to finish.

Excited to see Transformers 2 sometime soon.

Wednesday, 24 June 2009

  • Tomorrow is our last day in the office.  We have our farewell chapel (along with the other farewelling officers) and a reception.  Our offices are packed and we have two days left before the movers arrive.  The kids seem to be excited since they are looking inside boxes and trying to help put stuff in boxes.

Had a nice dinner with the DHQ staff.  We are going to miss the friendship and fellowship.  We look forward to working alongside the folks in Southwest.

Monday, 22 June 2009

  • Happy Father's Day!

A good day all around.  We went to the corps, Ang and I had a lunch date, we visited our sessionmate in the hospital, and a movie to finish.

Both kids made me cards at church and at home.  Nathan is getting much better at writing his name.  When I asked if he made me the card he said "yes."

Three more days in the office.  Where has the time gone since May?
